Though broad at a distance, the painting contains intense detail of the fascinating shapes of snow and rock stratigraphy in Valdez, with my soulful imagination woven in. It is a continuation in my series of studies dedicated to the interplay of light, rock, and snow in Alaska’s famous Chugach Mountains. It is also part of my larger Valdez collection, dedicated to infamous steep skiing and skiers… I’ve personally skied it several times, and it was painted from photograph by longtime Heli ski guide Jed Workman.
